Consents

Consents are required for activities other than permitted and prohibited activities.

Consents

Resource consents form Part 6 of the RMA. Regional plans specify the activities which would require consents and notification requirements. Consent applications will not be received or processed for prohibited activities.

Applications

Consent applications can be lodged at the council in prescribed forms with the assessment of environmental effects along with specified deposit.

Notification

Once full information is in hand the application may be notified publicly depending on the plan requirements or meeting s95A test.

Hearing

Within 25 working days of the closure of the submissions hearing will be conducted by a council appointed hearing panel to decide the applications.

Nationally Significant Consents

Certain applications may be considered as nationally significant. S142 of the RMA lists criteria for such applications (e.g. wider public interest, significant use of natural or physical resources, affects area of national significance, affects NZ’s international obligations etc).

Granted Consents

Granted consents may have commencement dates, lapse dates, conditions including monitoring, recording and reviews, limits and terms.

Certificate of Compliance

Anyone can apply for a certificate of compliance for a non-consented but lawful activity (e.g. permitted acitivity).
