Regional Policy Statements
Regional Policy Statement (RPS) is the umbrella planning document for the regional council which must take into account National Policy Statements and Coastal Policy Statements.

Regional Plans
The purpose of the regional plans is to assist regional council in carrying out its functions to achieve the purpose of the RMA. There is no RMA mandate to prepare regional plans except for Regional Coastal Plans.
