In 2013 between 175,000 and 200,000 ha land in New Zealand was under arable farming with a farm gate value of the arable farming being $0.5 billion.

Arable Farming

The top arable farm export earner seeds (e.g. grass, clover, vegetable etc.) were produced within 60-70,000 ha with an export value of $193 million. Rye grass seeds contributed $70 million and vegetable seeds $82 million.

Arable Farming Continued

From 130 to 140,000 ha in excess of 1 million tonnes of grains (wheat, barley, maize and oats) were produced. Eighty percent of the grains produced was wheat (54,000 ha) and barley (56,000 ha) and the wheat and barley based product export was between $130 and $160 millions.
