Arable farming industry has a wider representation (Federated Farmers – Grain and Seed, United Wheatgrowers NZ Ltd, New Zealand Grain and Seed Trade Association, Foundation for Arable Research and Arable Food Industry Council). Other industries such as Irrigation New Zealand also provide useful information and support on irrigation matters to arable farmers with irrigation.

Apart from choosing arable farming as a lifestyle farm profitability and environmental management should be the key factors to sustain grain/seed production and New Zealand economy. To maintain or improve profitability, performance of crop and soil is critical for which nutrients, water, and soil conditioners (e.g.lime) and pest management are essential. Long-term profitability also improves with energy efficient practices. Water and land have to be managed to avoid or minimise any damage.
